Hot shooting leads Sun Devils over Beavers

The Arizona State Sun Devils played defense with historic tenacity and shot the basketball with eye-popping efficiency Thursday night against visiting Oregon State.

The 20 th-ranked Sun Devils swished 65.1 percent of their field-goal attempts for the game and 88.9 percent in the second half as they routed the Beavers 69-38 at Wells Fargo Arena. The 38 points are the fewest the Sun Devils have allowed in any Pac-10 game since joining the conference in 1978-79.

Senior guard Rickey Claitt was Oregon State’s leading scorer with five points.

Sophomore guard James Harden led Arizona State with 22 points and seven assists, while sophomore forward Rihards Kuksiks added 13 points. Senior power forward Jeff Pendergraph, playing with a sprained MCL he sustained last Sunday against California, finished Thursday’s game with seven points and four rebounds.
