Oregon holds off Trojans for first Pac-10 win
Ducks win first game in Matthew Knight Arena
Oregon built a 20-point lead just over eight minutes into the second half and hung on to capture a 68-62 win over USC in the first-ever game at Matthew Knight Arena.
The Ducks (8-9, 1-4) went up 57-37 with 11:54 left when Malcolm Armstead knocked down a jumper. However, they would go the next nine minutes without a basket and this allowed the Trojans to climb back into the contest.
USC (10-7, 2-2) pulled within four at 65-61 when Marcus Simmons hit the second of two free throws with 1:41 to play.
Johnathan Loyd finished with 12 points to pace the Ducks. Malcolm Armstead, EJ Singler, and Tyrone Nored also scored in double figures.
Donte Smith came off the bench to score a team-high 13 points for the Trojans. Nikola Vucevic posted a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Maurice Jones knocked down two triples and concluded the contest with 12.
