Washington Drop Three Straight in a Week
The downward spiral continues for the struggling University of Washington Huskies as they lost to the Oregon Ducks on Saturday afternoon, 81-76.
Washington, which is third in the nation in points per game, 13th in rebounds, ninth in assists, and 26th in field goal percentage, was handed its third straight loss by an Oregon team whose highest ranking in a major statistical category is a whopping 112th in assists.
Washington, which first lost to Washington State a week ago, in a game that may have exposed the weak link in the Huskies' explosive offense - its ability to perform against a 2-3 zone - responded with a second loss just four days later to the Oregon State Beavers. Saturday afternoon, the Huskies again battled the 2-3 zone and fell victim to what can only be deemed the curse of Oregon’s Matthew Knight Arena.
Washington, which shot just 37 percent from the field against the Beavers and has struggled to put points on the board in recent games, had much a better rate of offensive production against the Ducks on Saturday; what ultimately plagued Washington this weekend was a lack of defensive stops.
Matthew Bryan-Amaning led all scorers with 21 points, Justin Holiday added 16, Isaiah Thomas tallied 13 points, and freshman Terrence Ross added 12 points on the strength of four 3-point baskets. Holiday also added four shots behind the arc. However, despite the influx of an offensive presence, the Huskies held the lead just twice in this game, with 14:35 remaining in the first half and with 18:15 to play in the second half. They were completely outplayed by the Ducks at nearly every turn.
Oregon’s Joevan Catron led the Ducks with 20 points, 16 of which came in the second half. The Oregon forward added nine rebounds and three steals and was one of four Oregon players to score in double figures against the Huskies. Oregon's E.J. Singler, who finished the afternoon with 16 points, lived up to his 81-percent foul-shooting average and added the final blows when he made 4-of-4 free throws in the final minutes to take the game from a one-possession lead to two for UO.

Jay-R Strowbridge had 12 points and Tyrone Nared added 14 for the Ducks.
Oregon, which began this season under first-year head coach Dana Altman and was picked to be last in the conference, has now won five of its last seven games and is now tied for fifth in the Pac-10 with the Stanford Cardinal.
Oregon will head to LA looking to extend its win streak to three while the Huskies head back to Seattle looking to end this losing streak and win at home in front of their fans against the Bay Area schools.
