Washington Just One Game Out of First
The Washington Huskies turned a three game losing streak into a two game winning streak as they rounded out the week with an 87-76 victory over the Stanford Cardinal Saturday in Seattle, Wash.
The Huskies, who put up dismal numbers on the road two weeks ago against Washington State and the Oregon schools, found away to turn things around this week for their home crowd.
Washington, which combined for 212 points in its three losses, put up 196 in its last two victories, boosting its points scored per game average back up to second in the nation, and keeping the Huskies just one game out of first place in the Pac-10.
The Huskies who blew an 11-point lead last month in Palo Alto, California, made certain they would not make the same mistake twice. Washington took an 8-6 lead off a Matthew Bryan-Amaning basket with 15:29 remaining in the first half and never looked back.
Isaiah Thomas scored 22 points, 14 of which came in the final three minutes of the first half. The junior guard is shooting 45 percent from the field and averaging 17 points per game for Washington.
Taking some of the offensive load for the Huskies was Venoy Overton. The Washington guard had a rocky start after battling a hamstring injury in the off season and a hyper- extended knee early in his senior season, but Overton is finally back in full health. He scored a season-high 14 points against the Cardinal Saturday evening.
Also coming into his own is redshirt freshman C.J. Wilcox, who finished with 10 points. After starting the season with a bang, he found his way to limited minutes due to injury and the lights-out shooting of true freshman Terrance Ross. However, with Ross starting to force his game as of late, Wilcox has taking his natural three point shooting ability to the bank, shooting 42 percent behind the arc, which places him in the top five in the Pac-10.

Jeremy Green put together his fourth straight 20-point game at Alaskan Airlines Arena and led the Cardinal with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
The Cardinal head back home to take on the UCLA Bruins; a victory for Stanford would move the Huskies into second place in the Pac-10.
Washington will take its show on the road again for a battle against Arizona State and first-place Arizona, both must-win games for the Huskies should they want a shot at winning the conference.
