Utah becomes 12 th member of “Pac-10”Utes leaves the Mountain West Conference Utah had been involved in the Pac-10 expansion talks all along. Once it became clear that Texas and the Big 12 was going to remain together for the time being, the Utes became the obvious pick to become the league’s 12 th member. Well, it became official on Thursday when the University of Utah accepted its invitation during a press conference at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Utah, which has been arguably the top football program in the very strong Mountain West Conference, has played in and won two Bowl Championship Series games. The Utes pounded Pitt following the 2004 season under then coach Urban Meyer. Then, they completed their 2008 campaign by soundly defeating Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide. The Utah basketball program will also be a nice edition for the Pac-10. Now that the Pac-10 has become the “Pac-12”, don’t be surprised if the league’s expansion is done for the time being. Stay tuned to pac10-fans.com for the latest coverage of the league’s expansion.
