Washington Huskies @ Oregon Ducks Football Preview
Last week football teams representing the state of Washington were outscored by a 116-3. Adding 41 points to the 113 point deficit were the University of Washington Huskies. And just when fans thought things couldn’t get any worse, head coach Steve Sarkisian announced Monday afternoon, starting quarterback Jake Locker has been ruled out for Saturday’s game against the Oregon Ducks. Locker who in his senior season has 253 yards rushing, 1,678 yards passing with a completion rate of 56 percent, 14 touchdowns and six interceptions will be sidelined with a fractured rib for the Pac-10 road game against No.1 ranked University of Oregon. So what does this mean for the Huskies? First, lining up behind center will be Keith Price.
The redshirt freshman is not completely without experience at the collegiate level, due to the Huskies high scoring games, and injury the injury stricken Locker, Price has seen action in five games completed five of nine passes, for one touchdown and no interceptions. Unfortunately, the young quarterback is being thrust into the spot light against a team that can’t seem to do wrong. Price will be commanding an offense that has done a porous job of protecting its fifth year senior against defenses that are far less talented than this Oregon Duck team. And although Washington leads the series 58-39-5, on at Autzen, the series favors Oregon 12-10. If fans of the Washington Huskies thought the Nebraska and Stanford games were painful to watch, I would suggest turning the TV to the Breeders Cup this Saturday.
The Oregon Ducks are shocking the Nation—after releasing 2009 quarterback Jeremiah Masoli for off-field antics, many anticipated a less than competitive offensive threat. Instead, the Ducks lead the nations in total offense (572.9) and scoring offense (54.9) paired with the despicable 109 th ranked Husky defense expect to see, unless Oregon lays and egg, a offensive performance that skewed in favor of the Ducks. With, serious Heisman Candidate and running back LaMichael James leading the NCAA in rushing, all-purpose yards and scoring per game, paired with senior quarterback Darron Thomas’ 21 touchdowns (the first QB since Dennis Dixon in 2007 to throw 20 or more touchdowns in a single season for Oregon), this under achieving Washington defense is going to need to find something magical if they want a chance at not getting blown out on the road. The Chip Kelly led Oregon offense is will kick off against the Huskies at 12:36 pm at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore.
